My Shakeology Cleanse

Since I did the giveaway for the Shakeology Cleanse, I thought I would write about my most recent cleanse results.

I started last Monday right after the half marathon. Keep in mind that I carb loaded the week before for the half. And I had steak and french bread Sunday night : )

Shakeology Cleanse Day #1

Meal #1: Chocolate Shakeology (made with water and ice in blender)

snack: banana, green tea

Meal #2: Chocolate Shakeology

Snack: honey crisp apple, green tea

Meal # 3: spinach salad, with one cup cherry tomatoes, croutons, lite Asian sesame dressing, and rotisserie chicken

Notes: I didn't drink the third shake, I just didn't have the hunger for it, probably from my large supper the night before. I have croutons on my salad when I have the cleanse because I feel I need a bit extra carbs for sanity. Also, rotisserie chicken is probably not the cleanest of meats, but it had great flavor, and my family had a good meal with me. No exercise. I was pretty sore still from the half (had to go down the stairs sideways, and I have 3 flights of stairs in my house!)

Results: 4 pounds lost

Shakeology Cleanse Day #2

Meal #1: Chocolate Shakeology (made with water and ice in blender)

snack: banana, green tea

Meal #2: Chocolate Shakeology

Snack: honey crisp apple, green tea

Meal #3: spinach salad, with one cup cherry tomatoes, croutons, lite Asian sesame dressing, and rotisserie chicken

Notes: Same menu, different day! But this time I had the third shake. I will tell you, I don't tire of these, even plain! Still no exercise today, but I vacuumed the whole house! Has to count for something, right?

Results: 2 pounds lost

Shakeology Cleanse Day #3

Meal #1: Chocolate Shakeology (made with water and ice in blender)

snack: banana, green tea

Meal #2: Chocolate Shakeology

Snack: honey crisp apple, green tea

Meal #3: Applebees- oriental chicken salad wrap with grilled chicken (half sandwich) and handful of fries.

Notes: First day I felt I could have exercised, but chose not to. Had a girls night at Applebees. Stuck with my old standby and just water. But it was good to get out and chat!

Results: 1 more pound lost

Total: 7 pounds lost!!! Yay!

At the finish line
----------------

I fretted the last few days before worrying about what to wear. I hadn't run in the mornings for awhile, and wasn't used to the cold. The temps were calling for 42 degrees at 6am, with around 55 degrees at 9am. I made a special trip to Dick's and bought some Capri running tights, but ended up not wearing them. I decided to wear a peach long sleeved tech t, and black shorts. Both champion by Target, BTW.

I got up at 5am, got dressed (I also brought two different tops in my backpack just in case. I had packed a pink tshirt with some arm warmers made from socks. Cute, but didn't wear it.) I had a Shakeology at I brought in the car and a large water. Then I made the trip by myself down to Crown Center. I parked where I thought was free (later found it was $5). Then I warmed up in the car for awhile, and headed down to the start. I hit up the porta potties first. When I left the line was loooooong! I dropped off my bag at bag check, drank my 5 hour energy shot, and at some orange slices. Then I made my way to the start.

I lined up with the 2:20 pace group and wore a pace band. Pace bands are awesome if you want to stick to a certain pace. I saw a few people I knew from work. Then when I started, I left the 2:20 group in the dust. The beginning course was great. We ran from Crown Center to P&L District. My shin muscles were a bit tight to begin with, and I worried a bit about that. Then I passed a guy doing the race in his regular wheelchair, not a Ravi GG wheelchair, and decided to forget about my aches.

After P&L, we ran up the Liberty Memorial hill. That was around mile 3. It didn't seem as bad as last time. Probably because I have since experienced hospital hill! At the top, it is neat because there is a switchback where you can see everyone before and after you so it is fun to cheer them on. Ever since the beginning, I was within 100 ft of the 2:15 pace group, so my goal was to keep them in my sights. After this there were some nice downhill sections. We headed down Main to Westport, then cut across to Roanoake and towards the Plaza. I lost the 2:15 pace group around here, ran past them at the water stop. BTW, this race was great, water and Gatorade every 2 miles, well stocked. I took a water at each stop but the last, and walked while drinking so I wouldn't choke. I also took a gu around mile 4, then mile 7, and again at mile 10.

Running past the plaza, I ran with the 4:25 marathon group until they turned off. I guess I was too busy to even notice Nelson-Atkins on the left. Then we turned back north. By mile 10, I was back with the 2:15 pace group. I didn't start getting really tired until mile 12 and the pace group really helped draw me in. The guy was a bit annoying for awhile, but I appreciated all his general coaching and comments on how to power up and down hills, etc.

I actually saw my family right after the finish. My husband and kids were there with my in-laws. They were right on the sideline and got some great pics of me finishing. They were actually better than my race photos, so score, no paying for overpriced pics!

I must say that it turned out to be a beautiful day, great weather and sunny. Great course. Great race support, spectators, pace groups! At the finish, chocolate milk, fruit, pretzels, oranges, and beer. Skipped the beer tent! My kids came thru the chute with me. And they had flowers for me at the finish.

Then my daughter and I hung around for awhile. I changed at crown center, then we went to her Daisy Girl Scout Halloween event at P&L later that morning.

So all and all, a great time! I will definitely do it again next year! (And my husband is thinking about it too!)

My next half marathon will be in April "Rock the Parkway" here in KC.

Shakeology Cleanse Winner

Congrats to Kristin, who is the winner of the Shakeology Cleanse Giveaway with comment #26.

Kristin has a great blog called His Rustic Chic, so check it out. She could use some prayers right now, so send them her way!

For those who didn't win, but really want to try Shakeology, or the cleanse, leave me a comment or send me an email. I do sell the individual packets, instead of the large bags, so it isn't as big of the cost commitments. A few of you jumped right in and ordered Shakeology before the giveaway, so keep me informed of you progress.

Keep tuned in. I plan on a monthly giveaway. Not always as big as a cleanse kit, but always something fun!

Early AM Exercise

I dragged myself out of bed at 4:40am to go workout on Monday morning. I went to a class called "joggalates.". It is a combo of running and pilates. First we went and ran 2-3 miles based on ability and goals. The second half was pilates. I have never done pilates before. I can definitely feel it in my core. And, note to self: get extra padded mat and bring towel. I must have an extra bony tailbone because I am really sore there!

It felt awesome to get my workout done before I would normally not even be awake. If it is possible, I highly recommend getting up early, even just 30 minutes to exercise. But I need to convince myself of this most days. I know every Monday I must do this because I paid for it! But, I am worth doing it at home too! I paid for my videos, my treadmill, my running shoes. And I pay for it when I don't work out later in the day because there are excuses. There are no excuses at 4 or 5 or 6 am. Only sleep, and I can do that later!

So who is with me for getting up early to exercise? I need to be held accountable!

Also, not too late to enter the Shakeologgy Cleanse giveaway. Fnd out more about it here: Shakeology Cleanse

On a final note.... Weather forecast is high 77 and low 50 on Saturday. Wish it were a smudge cooler. Very undecided on what to wear.

One week to go

Only one week to go until my half. I am in my taper. But I think I have lost my mojo a bit. I am excited for the half, don't get me wrong. But I have no motivation for other exercising at the moment. True, it is taper for a reason, a time to physically and mentally cut back. But I feel like a have also let myself go. Actually I know I have. I HAVE given myself to eat whatever for this next week. And I plan to get back in the swing of things right after the half.

I plan on starting a 3 day shakeology cleanse and getting back into clean and healthy eating. I am also going to finish up Insanity and start Asylum afterwards. And i need to fit in some strength training too. I am going to try out a class called joggalates. First half running and last half pilates. I just need to get out of bed around 4:45am to do it! I hope it is the spark that gets me back to exercising first thing in the morning.

Anyone with me on exercising in the dark?

Don't forget to enter my Shakeology Cleanse giveaway so you can join in with me!
